Fairview Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) Meeting Minutes
October 7, 2014
Jen Laible, Deanna Gallichan, Holly Reichman, Jonathan Sandelin, Korin Sandelin, Vicki Paulus, Jenny Diaz-Bernardes, Debbie Christensen, Peter Christensen and Whitney Haucke.
There were no comments or changes to the September meeting minutes. Jonathan requested that the meeting minutes posted on the website include a downloadable PDF or Word file to be easily printed.
A suggestion was made to add a CYO sports coordinator position to the PTF board. Jonathan moved to add the position and there were no objections. Names were suggested. This person could manage the sports page on the website and provide information about CYO sports teams forming.
Social Studies Fair is the main event in October. Display tables will be set up in the auditorium and the potluck in the gym. The Eagle News will have more details about the potluck. A short program similar in content to previous years is planned for the SS Fair.
The Chinook Book sale has been over for a week. Twenty-one families will need to return items or be charged for them on their statement. Fairview ordered 100 packets and passed them out to 90 families. Whatever items have not been sold need to be returned.
Next meeting Korin will have finalized numbers and amounts.
Wreath sales will be the last week of October and first week or two of November. Volunteers will be needed the week after Thanksgiving break to sort the right items to the right families.
The T-shirt design has been under discussion. Mrs. Ramos described a possible word art design idea in order to avoid students’ drawing a conqueror to go along with this year’s verse. Bright blue will be used as the T-shirt color.
Valerie reported back to Jonathan on shopping bags via email and Jonathan will share the details at the next meeting when he has access to his email.
The budget is balanced and based on current enrollment. Funds from the Jogathon will be used to order musical instruments soon. The PTF board unanimously approved the budget after Jonathan moved that it be accepted.
Mrs. Christensen reported that the playground basketball hoop broke this summer and cannot be repaired. This hoop is the adjustable one and Mrs. C would like to replace it with another one just like it. Holly Reichman offered an adjustable hoop from her family to the school. The offer was accepted and appreciated. Thank you, Holly!
New flooring for Castle Room was to arrive today. Flooring quotes for the gym are being requested now. A lawyer (parent) is advising the school on how to proceed with insurance claims, contact with the city of Seattle and other matters pertaining to the flood.
Reminder: There will be no school Thursday, October 16, and Friday, October 17.
A suggestion was made by Vicki to have teachers share something they’re proud about their classes as well as something they might need for their classroom. For example, Mr. Christensen had mentioned a need for new compasses.
Excellent feedback on the new website; Kevin appreciates the interest and help updating information. A new server was added recently as well as adding a new projector for the church’s youth room.
A session will follow this meeting in the computer lab to review how to use WordPress for updating the new website.
Jenny mentioned a problem with the Fairview sign located on the playground fence. The sign is unreadable because it is flipped over. Someone suggested moving the sign to the backstop on 79th and 8th. Mrs. Christensen volunteered to move the sign.
The meeting was adjourned and everyone was encouraged to attend the WordPress session.
The next PTF meeting will be Tuesday, November 4, 2014 starting at 6:30. Pizza and childcare are provided. Everyone is welcome.
