The meeting was opened at 6:34 with prayer by Whitney Haucke. Whitney will be leading the meeting in Jonathan Sandelin’s absence.
Please let Vicki Paulus know if you have any comments on or changes to the March meeting minutes.
Jennifer Laible asked if Fairview families would like to go to the Mariners game this spring. Comments were made regarding the 3rd – 8th grade students attending a Mariners game for the weather fieldtrip in early June so families may not be interested in attending another game. Jennifer will call and find out what dates are available.
The Science Fair/Spaghetti Feed was very successful and well attended. A comment was made regarding pre-planning the compost and disposal of food and utensils. Mrs. Ramos stayed late sorting garbage to avoid fines from the city.
Amanda Olson reported the Jog-a-thon planning is going well. Shirt sizes and business sponsor logos are due Friday, April 24. The sizing sheet is at the table in the main hallway. Bill and Amanda have visited several local businesses asking them to consider sponsorship.
Nothing to report.
Kevin Tucker reported April 20-24 Fairview will be hosting an electronics recycling event. Bill will be collecting and storing items for recycling from the school community and the neighborhood is also welcome to bring items. A suggestion was made to put a notice on the reader board sign in front of the school.
Kevin also reported on the kick-off of the Technology Club. Six kids participated in the first meeting Monday, April 13. He anticipates more will attend when the 7th and 8th graders return from Washington D.C. Kevin will be purchasing a robotics kit with PTF funds to use at the club meetings
The budget is on track for the school year. Whitney pointed out the budget reflects fundraising is about $700 behind for the year. Someone asked if the prizes have been awarded yet for the wreath sale but Korin Sandelin was out of town for this meeting. She will be contacted regarding the question.
Track is the spring CYO sport. Soccer registration for fall will occur later this spring with practices beginning over the summer.
Holly Reichmann has contacted the volunteer sports coordinator at St. Catherine’s who welcomes Fairview participation on St. Catherine’s teams. He mentioned that Fairview students will not be able to participate in playoff games if St. Catherine’s teams go to the playoffs.
SCHOOL/CHILD CENTER UPDATE
The school would like to request families “adopt” a section of the school property to tend. More details to come.
The Child Center Spring Tea will be Friday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to participate.
Mrs. Sperry reported that recent maintenance on the building has caused some damage to child center playground. The damage was cited as a hazard on the state evaluation so the Child Center will be fundraising to pay for improvements to the playground. They are asking for volunteers to serve weekly lunch to those children whose families sign up.
Someone asked if Kids’ Care will be offered the last day of school. Mrs. Sperry confirmed that Kids’ Care will be available the last day of school.
Several possible questions were discussed for student representatives to ask the students for feedback. These will be given to Samuel Sandelin and Lexi Haucke for follow-up and to report on at the next PTF meeting.
Financial Peace University is being offered by Fairview Church. Another session will be held in the future and everyone is encouraged to participate and tell their friends about this excellent resource.
YMCA summer camp applications will be available in the main office for families interested in sending elementary age kids to summer day camps and specialty camps. Scholarships are available.
The next PTF meeting will be Tuesday, May 5, 2015, starting at 6:30. Pizza (6:00) and childcare are provided. Everyone is welcome.
