Theatre for Kids

Many of our kids at Fairview learn to love performing and drama through the awesome programs, shows and melodramas that our wonderful Mrs. Christensen directs.  As an extension to that, there is a great resource nearby in the Christian theater company called Taproot, just a hop skip away in Greenwood.  They have great classes for kids starting as early as age 1 and they’re enrolling now for fall classes.  You can take a look at their list here:

If you know of some great resources around town you’d like to share with other parents, click the title of this post and add a comment to let us know about it.

Street Whiffleball in Greenwood

I found out about this event from our sports partner school, St. Catherine’s.  This is a great opportunity to meet some families that your child may be playing soccer with next month!

Greenwood Ave N is going to be closed to motor vehicle traffic between N 65th and N 87th Streets tomorrow, August 13th, from 6-9 PM as part of Seattle’s “Celebrate Summer Streets” program, with support from the Greenwood/Phinney Chamber of Commerce:

What better way to celebrate the opening of so much urban space than by playing ball in the street?! To that end, St. Catherine’s CYO will be playing whiffle ball starting at 6:00 PM near the intersection of N 72nd St & Greenwood Ave N, between longtime youth baseball sponsors Ken’s Market and Greenwood Hardware. If enough players show up, as they did last year, we can split into two games, one for younger players and one for older players.

You are encouraged to arrive by walking or bicycling if possible. Also, bring cloth shopping bags, as this event will be held adjacent to several locally owned businesses in case you want to get a little shopping done while the games are going on.

Upcoming Summer Events

Hope you’re having a wonderful summer! Just wanted to remind you of some community events happening this week in which Fairview will be participating.

Greenwood Seafair Parade – Wednesday, July 28, 5pm: We’ll be lining up behind the Fairview banner between 5:15 and 5:30 in the Salvation Army parking lot located at 95th and Greenwood Ave N. (no parking here) to march in the parade. The theme this year is Greenwood’s Got Talent and so we’re encouraging the kids (and parents!) to dress up for the part! Check out the Fairview calendar for more specifics.

Maple Leaf Community Summer Social – Wednesday, July 28, 7pm: After the parade (or instead of it), come join us at the Maple Leaf party at the park for free ice cream and music! We’ll have a booth there along with other local organizations and we’d love to see you. Check out the Fairview calendar for more specifics.

Tuesday Prayer – Tuesdays at 8:30am at Starbucks on 65th: As many Fairview staff and teachers as are available any given week have been meeting each Tuesday to pray for the school, students and the upcoming school year. The plan is to continue this gathering until school starts. Anyone is welcome to join!

We’re looking forward to seeing you at one or more of these events!

Fairview Selected for ACSI Grant to Start Sustainable Funding Campaign

FCS has received a $12,000 grant from ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) to send a group of 7 people to be trained by Benevon to create a sustainable funding campaign for the school!

What does this mean for Fairview? It begins the process of fulfilling a 20 year dream started back when this school building was first purchased, to create a Foundation that would aid the budget of the school, cover building renovation projects, and provide scholarships to make the cost of a private education in Seattle affordable to any that desired it.

Benevon is a training group, started here in Seattle, that coaches non-profit organizations in effectively implementing major fundraising efforts. We do this by creating close, ongoing relationships with people who are interested in, and might be willing to invest in, the mission that Fairview has of educating and empowering children in heart, mind, and soul. We are really looking forward to the benefits that can be realized by being good at letting people know about Fairview and sharing our Kingdom mission with them.

We already have 5 committed team members. If you are interested in joining the team on this exciting venture, would like to be included on the funding committee e-mail list, or have questions to know more about what’s going on, please e-mail

As always, keep praying for the school and the great work we’re doing here together to nurture our children and further God’s Kingdom!
