Sports

A number of our students participate in various sports activities either in partnership with St. Catherine’s in CYO (Catholic Youth Organization), or in other local sports leagues.  The fall soccer and cross country seasons are underway with events every weekend.  When we have information about games that our students participate in, we will post them on our school website calendar.  It’s great when friends come out to cheer you on at a game or meet!  So check out the schedules for upcoming Soccer games and Cross Country meets.  (/calendar/google-calendar/).

Unfortunately, our information is not always complete, especially if you are involved on a community team.   So, if your game times are not listed, please let us know your schedule so we can post it!

Stay informed about the sports programs at Fairview by visiting http://sports.fcsseattle.org.  The information is constantly changing as we receive more game times and as new sports start up.

Look for basketball sign-ups for students grades 1-8 with St. Catherine’s to come mid-October.

To submit information, send e-mail to sports@fcsseattle.org. If you have any school team questions contact Leigh Tucker, our current St. Catherine’s sports liaison.

Theatre for Kids

Many of our kids at Fairview learn to love performing and drama through the awesome programs, shows and melodramas that our wonderful Mrs. Christensen directs.  As an extension to that, there is a great resource nearby in the Christian theater company called Taproot, just a hop skip away in Greenwood.  They have great classes for kids starting as early as age 1 and they’re enrolling now for fall classes.  You can take a look at their list here:

If you know of some great resources around town you’d like to share with other parents, click the title of this post and add a comment to let us know about it.

Thanks!

Street Whiffleball in Greenwood

I found out about this event from our sports partner school, St. Catherine’s.  This is a great opportunity to meet some families that your child may be playing soccer with next month!

Greenwood Ave N is going to be closed to motor vehicle traffic between N 65th and N 87th Streets tomorrow, August 13th, from 6-9 PM as part of Seattle’s “Celebrate Summer Streets” program, with support from the Greenwood/Phinney Chamber of Commerce:

http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/summer_green.htm

What better way to celebrate the opening of so much urban space than by playing ball in the street?! To that end, St. Catherine’s CYO will be playing whiffle ball starting at 6:00 PM near the intersection of N 72nd St & Greenwood Ave N, between longtime youth baseball sponsors Ken’s Market and Greenwood Hardware. If enough players show up, as they did last year, we can split into two games, one for younger players and one for older players.

You are encouraged to arrive by walking or bicycling if possible. Also, bring cloth shopping bags, as this event will be held adjacent to several locally owned businesses in case you want to get a little shopping done while the games are going on.
