Fairview Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) Meeting Minutes
March 3, 2015
Holly Reichmann, Jonathan Sandelin, Vicki Paulus, Sharilee West, Whitney Haucke, Jennifer Laible, Kevin Tucker and Marylinda Epps
The meeting was opened with prayer by Jonathan Sandelin.
There were no comments on or changes to the February meeting minutes. Thank you to Jen Laible for taking them at the February meeting
The Spaghetti Dinner (and Science Fair), to be held on March 26, will be organized by Darla Smatlak. Additional volunteers from the community and PTF would be appreciated and can fill in wherever needed.
Amanda provided details via email regarding the lime green t-shirt design and order for the Jog-a-thon. She provided a timeline for obtaining business sponsorships and which included the need to provide sponsor logos by mid-April for the t-shirts. The t-shirt order arrangements are being made with the same supplier as last year and that vendor will also be able to create the banner. A t-shirt size spreadsheet will be placed in the hallway and in the Kids’ Care room prior to ordering shirts so parents can choose a size for their child.
Mrs. West mentioned that the Jog-a-thon business sponsorships should provide the funds to cover the Jog-a-thon costs so the pledges the children collect go directly to the targeted fundraiser. This year’s targeted fundraiser will be the new gym flooring with dollar for dollar matching from the PTF upto $5000.
We have collected 2023 Box Tops for Education for a total of $202.30. Thank you Valerie Dominique for leading the collection campaign and submitting them this year.
Kevin provided a detailed proposal for starting a Fairview Tech Club for ages 9-14. Please see the attachment link for more information. He proposed starting it after spring break on Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 4:30. The times coincide well with Homework Club on Monday and Youth Group start time (6:00 pm) on Wednesdays. He would also like kids to have access to various coding resources during the school day so they can use some free time to explore what they are working on or learning.
The PTF board approved the motion to help pay the start-up costs for the First Lego League Robotics registration and kits which will range around $1300.
The budget through January 2015 is on track for the school year. The PTF Board had a discussion about the need for fundraisers to be budget neutral or have a positive impact on the budget.
SCHOOL/CHILD CENTER UPDATE
A family purchased the Fairview tuition package on the KCMS website auction and will be visiting the school in the next week or two.
Students are busy preparing for the upcoming Science Fair the week of March 23.
Standardized testing will take place the week of April 20.
In the Child Center Garden class we have a new staff person named Sue (her birthday is 10/7). Melinda has moved on to a different position.
Holly Reichmann has offered to serve on the PTF Board as the CYO Athletics Coordinator. She will keep in touch with St. Catherine’s School, the Diocese CYO Athletics office and Fairview families regarding registration details for the various sports offered at St. Catherine’s.
Acting on Samuel Sandelin’s proposal to include a student representative at the PTF meetings, 5th grader Alexa Haucke will be the first student representative to attend during the next meeting. She will report back to the students on any items of interest to the student body.
The next PTF meeting will be Tuesday, April 14, 2015, starting at 6:30. The departure from the regular 1st Tuesday schedule is due to spring break. Pizza (6:00) dinner and childcare are provided. Everyone is welcome.
The meeting was adjourned.
