Fairview’s new rhododendron garden!

Many thanks to Zachary Diaz and his company, Z & I Landscaping and to all the Fairview parent volunteers that came out this last weekend to work on cleaning up the landscaping on the East and North slopes around the playground!  Also many thanks to Janice Lehman and her marketing committee for planning and organizing this event to help beautify our wonderful school.  You can see the before and after pictures below.

Fairview Students Spruce Up

A small volunteer group, consisting of all Fairview students and alum, came to Fairview School on Wednesday August 17th to spruce up the entry ways of the school in preparation of the new school year. While not experts in the art of landscaping, these willing volunteers, clipped, raked and composted until completion. A quick break to visit with mascot Gibbs and with former teacher Mrs T were the only distractions to this otherwise productive team.

Following the mornings work, a trip to Maple Leaf Park to play in the GIANT sprinkler (to cool off, of course), a little soccer, and refuel on hot dogs, chips, and similar snacks. All participants had a blast and intend to participate in other outreach efforts in our community.

Upcoming Summer Events

Hope you’re having a wonderful summer! Just wanted to remind you of some community events happening this week in which Fairview will be participating.

Greenwood Seafair Parade – Wednesday, July 28, 5pm: We’ll be lining up behind the Fairview banner between 5:15 and 5:30 in the Salvation Army parking lot located at 95th and Greenwood Ave N. (no parking here) to march in the parade. The theme this year is Greenwood’s Got Talent and so we’re encouraging the kids (and parents!) to dress up for the part! Check out the Fairview calendar for more specifics.

Maple Leaf Community Summer Social – Wednesday, July 28, 7pm: After the parade (or instead of it), come join us at the Maple Leaf party at the park for free ice cream and music! We’ll have a booth there along with other local organizations and we’d love to see you. Check out the Fairview calendar for more specifics.

Additionally…

Tuesday Prayer – Tuesdays at 8:30am at Starbucks on 65th: As many Fairview staff and teachers as are available any given week have been meeting each Tuesday to pray for the school, students and the upcoming school year. The plan is to continue this gathering until school starts. Anyone is welcome to join!

We’re looking forward to seeing you at one or more of these events!

Fairview Selected for ACSI Grant to Start Sustainable Funding Campaign

FCS has received a $12,000 grant from ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) to send a group of 7 people to be trained by Benevon to create a sustainable funding campaign for the school!

What does this mean for Fairview? It begins the process of fulfilling a 20 year dream started back when this school building was first purchased, to create a Foundation that would aid the budget of the school, cover building renovation projects, and provide scholarships to make the cost of a private education in Seattle affordable to any that desired it.

Benevon is a training group, started here in Seattle, that coaches non-profit organizations in effectively implementing major fundraising efforts. We do this by creating close, ongoing relationships with people who are interested in, and might be willing to invest in, the mission that Fairview has of educating and empowering children in heart, mind, and soul. We are really looking forward to the benefits that can be realized by being good at letting people know about Fairview and sharing our Kingdom mission with them.

We already have 5 committed team members. If you are interested in joining the team on this exciting venture, would like to be included on the funding committee e-mail list, or have questions to know more about what’s going on, please e-mail kevint@fcsseattle.org.

As always, keep praying for the school and the great work we’re doing here together to nurture our children and further God’s Kingdom!

Fairview on the News!

Hi all,

If you were watching King 5 news last night you would have seen Fairview’s name metioned as a site showing the highest winds yesterday through our WeatherBug weather station!  The page is still cached by Google, so if you want, you can take a look at it here.  Not only that, but we also just received an e-mail from KOMO4:

Good Afternoon –
I hope this e-mail finds you well… my name is Paul Deanno, and I work as the morning meteorologist for KOMO4. All school year long, we will be customizing forecasts for specific schools that have been nominated by teachers, students, and/or parents. I am happy to let you know that Fairview Christian School has been nominated and will be featured on our newscast this upcoming Wednesday, March 24 between 6:30 am and 7:00 am!!!

I hope you can tune in on this broadcast and tell your friends!
